CONTROLLING It is the process of monitoring, comparing, and correcting work performance. Managers should control , even if they think their units are performing as planned, they can’t really know how units are performing unless they have evaluated what activities have been done and compared actual performance against the desired standard module which has been established while planning. Importance of controlling :- 1.Without control there would be no focus or direction. They are essential for creating order and also bringing synergy by providing a required framework for action and execution. Preventive controls attempt to identify and preempt deviations in standards before they occur. Thus controls are also important to ensure consistency with quality standards. 2.Control provides critical link back to planning- Goals provide specific direction to employees and managers and act as foundations of planning. However just stating goals or having employees accept goals doesn’t guarantee that the necessary actions to accomplish these goals have been taken. But control provides useful link back to planning. If managers don’t control, they have no way of knowing whether their goals and plans are being achieved and what future actions to take. 3. The 3rd reason for controlling is employee empowerment. Many managers are reluctant to empower their employees because they fear that something might go wrong and they might be held accountable and responsible.
